Tom Metcalfe

Tom is a Scottish designer specialising in object and conceptual design, design thinking and internet-connected objects.

Currently the Producer of REACT Objects Sandbox at Watershed, Bristol, he has has a background in both academia and industry, having worked in senior positions at both rAndom International and the Product Research Studio.  He’s the co-founder of Fieldguide, an occasional collective and sometimes journal for people interested in design, technology, society and the intersections where they overlap.

His collaborations and employment have resulted in work being presented and exhibited at, amongst others, Selfridges, Wellcome Trust, British Library, V&A and Design Miami as well as design and technology festivals like London Design Festival and Mozilla Festival.

He’s been module leader and tutor on Product Design Postgraduate programmes. Produced hackathons with a focus on making and physical, product hacks.  He’s also delivered workshops and talks internationally around design and emerging technologies,  at events such as SXSW, Sotheby’s and NID India as well as for organisations like Arts Council England. Tom is scheduled to talk at O’Reilly Solid 2014 on Human Experiences in the Internet of Things.
